Jutiapa

We made it to Jutiapa and were greeted by a warm welcome and ham sandwiches. Our kids will be heading off to a park in 30 minutes for mime, basketball and childrens. The service and Medical will have the afternoon to help each of the teams.

June 14 afternoon #2

Mom, Dad, Danielle, Josh, Grandma, Grandpa, Taylor & Nikki,

Hey everybody! I haven’t blogged for a while because it’s a little difficult to get on the computer. I am now in El Salvador (which you probably already know) and we are staying in people’s homes here. I have a family that consists of a mom, dad, and little girl named Kayla. At first I thought I struck gold because it was so much nicer than Campur. I later realized the shower and toilet don’t work and it isn’t as “magical” as some of the other palaces here. So far today we only went to one church to do a performance for the kids. It was a nice break from running from school to school. We traveled with the mime team and the basketball team. So far, I haven’t gotten sick, but this is the point in the trip when everyone is. Just to be safe, everyone is asking “can I eat this?” before taking a bite of anything. Mom, I just read one of your letters. Terry is doing a good job of waiting long enough for me to forget you wrote them before giving them to me. Danielle, everyone liked hearing your hello, especially Kelsey. My host family liked seeing the pictures of you guys, my house, and the snow. Taylor & Nikki, I miss you guys so much and I’m talking about you guys a lot. I start my sentences with “my best friends…..” Okay, so everyone thinks I’m writing to my “lover” because I’m writing so long so I need to hurry off. I love you all soooooo much.
Love, Nicole Iskierka
p.s. Taylor say hi to Zacky. Nikki say hi to Moo moo. And Mommy say hi to Uncle Neil.

Hey Hey Mom and Dad,
Sorry its taken so long to write. I’m having a great time and feeling really good. We are in El Salvador now and staying in home stays. My house is extremely nice. It’s a drastic change from Campur. There are nice beds and showers and air conditioning!!! We have been going to lots of schools and doing our thing. I’m pro at balloon animal making. It’s very hot here. O and sorry mom I took the sisterhood book  Hope you had fun cleaning my room. We gave a whole bunch of kids beanie babies today and got lots of pictures. Me and Sarah are totally bonding and have made lots of plans for our dorm room  I’m missin being at swimming lessons Wendy!!!! I can’t wait to be back. I love you and miss you a lot. Do you know if I can go stay with Rach yet??? Tell Brett hi for me and I love him. Do you have any requests for presents??? Cant wait to hear from you!
Love, Lucie

Hi Mom, Dad, and Friends
After I blogged last time I found out that the brick count was more like 550, so I was just a little off  Right now we’re in Metapan and we have been scraping off old paint and rep-painting the walls for the last two days. Everything has been going well and I’m feeling good. Tomorrow we leave for Jutiapa and I’m very excited to sleep on the bus. I’m not going to write too much because other people are waiting to blog, so I’ll tell you more when I get home!
Love You,
Christina Benjamin

To: The Erickson Girls

Hey gals. Miss you. Love you. We did some ministry up in the mountains here near Metapan, El Salvador. It was great. An outdoor presentation for about 100 town folk. The basketball team played against some town guys that played well. Our guys won the game, but it was close. The mime team did the 30 minute program. Each time they perform they get better and better. In order to get to this town we had to walk across a bridge over a very muddy river. The bridge was a couple of blocks long. It swayed when many of the team members were crossing at once. They could have used this walkway in an Indiana Jones movie 

Christina, tried to email you, but it bounced back. Place a comment on the blog and include your email address. Hope all is gong well with mom and the girls.

Better go now. Have a great day. Love you!
Dad

Hola todo mi familia y amigos.
I don’t recall the last time I updated on this blog, but I’ve been reading all of your comments—I was able to check this last night at our homestay in El Salvador. I’m staying at a super nice house with Sarah Wasley and Hannah Dull. We have our own room separate from the rest of the house; we walk through their 3-year old’s room, out across the balcony and into our room. Yesterday we had a medical clinic in a big open halfway constructed buildingish thing, and today we had one in some church. We saw 180some patients throughout the course of today compared to the 100/120ish we have been seeing. It was pretty intense, but fun. Pray for team unity and encouragement though because tempers have been kind of short with everyone, though we’re coping. I hope all is well back home. I miss you all, and can’t wait until we get home. Mom have you sent my graduation invites yet….please??? Thanks. Love you all,
Elizabeth Z

Hi H-dawgs!
I haven’t gotten sick at all on this trip except caffeine headaches and a stomach ache. There are a few people that have gotten sick, but nothing major. I’ve only ridden the chicken bus once and it wasn’t bad at all. The medical team is doing really good, we’ve been seeing about 115 patients a day and today we saw 183. It gets really awkward and hot and we sweat A LOT. But it’s a really good feeling helping people in need. It’s been a lot of fun. Have a good time on your trip.
Kate Hondlik

To Mom and Dad and Tracy,
My finger is not in a splint. I put tape on it because I grabbed a chain net in basketball and cut it, but I’m good. Were having a great time and we have been playing well. I’ve not had one offensive foul Daddio. Be proud. I miss you Mom and Dad and I love you guys. I miss you too baby sis and love you. Let me know how the fishing is Dad. You the man Tracy. See you soon.

Love,
Brett

Hi Mom, Dad, Chrissy, Joshua and friends-
Thought I would write again. The service team has spent the last two days chipping paint and painting different parts of the church building in Metapan. Its been…well Josh, you remember how long I was interested in painting our bedroom. I stayed as positive as I could and helped “motivate” the students. Overall Metapan has been a good experience. The students are enjoying their home stays and many of them are meeting new team members and enjoying the company of more than just their good friends. The group is definitely more united as we head to Jutiapa. I am excited to get back to Jutiapa. I enjoyed that town last time I was here, good food. I hope all is well back at home or wherever you all are, Boston? Calgary? I want to go to the cabin – can we work that out? I love you guys and think of you often. You’re prayers are felt, thank you. Looking forward to a few hours of rest on the bus tomorrow, then ready for more work. Josh- go grocery shopping, don’t do any of my laundry ;), and have fun with your friends. Love ya! Miss ya!

    Hello SB Sarah,

I hope you have been seeing our posts.

Things are going well here. I am over half way done with your floor. Looks good.

Keep up the good work you are doing down there. There isnt anything more important going on around here you are missing. Whatever you would have done around here over the two weeks you were gone you would have forgotten about the next day anyways. What you are doing down there now you will remember the rest of your life.

Daniel is sad he will not see you when you get home because he leaves for Lake Beauty a few hours before you arrive.

The weather has been fairly nice with a cool breeze every night.
Today was our annual Old Country Buffet with Grandpa for Fathers Day. Takes like last year too!!!

    Please write again.

    Hi Cole,
Finally 2 days without rain during the day. We put the boats in, the rest of the dock and the boat lift. We doubted that it would be nice enough to go swimming but it turned out pretty nice on Sunday. So Tate went swimming in the lake in his underwear and couldn't talk anyone else into an underwear swim. We went to a couple open houses this weekend as well. The dogs left this morning. Maisie left a nice surprise in my closet. Please bring some of that hot weather back with you!!!!!!

    Matt Crane:

So glad to see your comments and to hear how things are going. You sure made it a challenge for us to understand your message though - being totally in Spanish and all. But, you know I have my ways to get an interpretation. I am so proud that you are letting God use you in this way to reach others for him. This is an adventure that you will never forget.

Kate and I decided to delay Father's day until after you return. We couldn't celebrate without you here!

Stay well and enjoy the rest of your trip. We are praying for you all.

Per ottenerli appena indietro, lascerò un messaggio rapido per voi in italiano. Vedere se potete calcolare questo fuori! Aspettiamo con impazienza di vederli la domenica prossima - non può credere che siate indietro così presto.

    Matt (Crane):
I do not appreciate your comment in Spanish. As for, your talking to Kate, your little whatever you called me, who can't understand Spanish at all! Life at home has been pretty boring without you. The kitties don't like you anymore, they have found their new best friend. (me) We had a huge thunderstorm last night, it was fun. Anyway, I miss you! I hope your having a wonderful time. The pics are quite beautiful, but nothing as cute as the one last year of you and the kid.
    Here's for your Spanish:
    这你自己的医学口味。 爸爸想做汉语,但是我说他可能了解西班牙语,因此他必须做你可能atleast了解的事,但是我,你看见,我不可能根本了解它,你那么这里去。 圣诞快乐和一新年好! 星期天看见你!
    爱,
    I love you too!

    Tony,

I hope you get this blog. I want to wish you a Happy Father's Day. All I did today was bring Mom to the grocery store and Walmart. We went to the Gathering tonight. It was pretty good. The sermom pastor preached today was really good. It was about Joseph, the carpenter. Maybe you can check it out on the archive it was really good.

Yesterday we went to Shanell's for Aaron's graduation party. It was nice seeing the family. Nikki took alot of pictures but not as many as she did at Brittney's graduation.

It's nice to know that you will be coming home in one week. In a way the time has gone fast. In another way I can't wait until you and Britt are home again. I miss both of you very much

Continue to take care of yourself. I hope your health has been good. Take care. I love you.

I am technically challenged and I don't know if you'll get this??? We did our annual camping with the neighborhood (about 30) and lots of rain. What a blast. Three more days until the puppy arrives! We miss you around here but having you serve the Lord in Central America is the best Fathers day present I have ever received. can't wait to have you around the house.

Jon-Saw your picture with the children and you look happy! We arrived back from Florida and Paula and Nate are back in wet Iowa. Everything went well-Paula and Nate's flight back to MSP was rough, especially the landing in a thunderstorm. She almost was sick on the plane. Our flight was delayed and we were home at 2:30 AM Sunday (14). We still went to church at 11:25 with Mark too, as he was sent home from work early!! We will look for your comments or questions!! We miss you!!!

    Hi Ashley,

We just got home from the cabin and checked the blog site. It looks like everyone has been very busy these past few days. It was fun to see you in the pictures and get your blogs. I am glad that your home stay is in such a nice house and with a pool. It must feel good after a long hot hard day. I am having all the ladies from our church group over on Tuesday night for a salad dinner. We will probably have a few minutes of prayer for all of our children that are there with you.We hope that you did not get sick and that all is going well. We continue to pray for you. I talked with Grandma Carlson today and she was going to blog to you but couldn't figure it out. I told her how to do it so maybe you will get a note this week. We got a call from Travis on Thursday night when they reached El Salvador. It was 1:00 in the morning. It sounds like it has been really hot and long days for them. Well, we are praying that God's love will shine through you and your words will be His words. Remember to smile. I do see your smile in the pictures. Keep it up! I will try and let Mike know to blog you. Does he have the website?

We love and miss you "Bug"!!!

    Love,
    Mom and Dad

P.S. Say "Hi" to Erica and the Beebster!

Sounds like you b-ball gents are all doing great work for Him. I'm so proud of you!

Mom and I went to the track banquet last Monday. When they called up the Jr runners there was only one guy! All of you are in Guat! Kiv did a nice mention for you guys and complimented your devotion and service. Cool.

Mom and Morgan had a great time in Chicago last week. Lots to talk to her about.

Today, Father's Day, was good too...but I missed you though. Your card was a stitch!!!!! How true. Thank you!

I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better. Did you get the "bug"?

All else is well at home.

I love you bud and think of you often.

    Hi, Nik,

It was so fun to see the glamorous pictures of you after showering in the rain! Loved it! I am relieved to hear you have not gotten sick yet. You travel all the way to Central America and don't get sick, but Dani got sick yesterday with flu-like symptoms that sounded suspiciously like food poisoning right here in her own home town! Just shows to go you! I am sorry you had no showers or toilet - I guess there are worse things. Neil is in Chicago until tomorrow but I'll say hi when he gets back. There is flooding all over Iowa this past week. Gary has been out filling sand bags to help keep things dry. Leslyn came today - no she didn't bring her dogs - we had a great evening. I haven't laughed that hard in awhile - she's really funny!

I'm glad you finally got a note from me - hope it gave you a boost. I pray every day for you. I can see where it would be easy to get discouraged and tired being gone this long. Hang in there - you can do it - be a blessing - focus on the right things - and always remember how much you are loved!

    Love you much,
    Mom

PS - Try to get into more pictures!

Elizabeth - It was nice to see a picture of the full medical team. The Bible says - Be anxious for nothing - Don't let the anxiety of larger patient numbers and short tempers get in the way of why you are all there. You are showing Christ through your love and service. That also means showing love to each other. We are praying for you.

    Hi Hannah Bo Bannah,
I just got done reading your blog from a day or two ago. I don't know how I missed it, since I thought I had been checking every day since you left. I can relate to your missing home. Remember, I went to Germany for a month when I was a freshman. Lonely!!! But looking back in time what an awesome memory, so hang in there, and remember that you are doing all you do for the One who does all things for those who love Him. What a blessing this is Hannah. Remember it's so not about us...it's all about Him. I love you and will continue to be praying for you.

Hi Sunshine! Thank you for blogging. It does me good to hear from you. I miss you very much. Dad and I were up at the cabin all weekend with Uncle Ken & Aunt Lori. Dad, Brittany & I went to Grandma & Grandpa Bartz's last night for dinner for Father's Day. We had steak and "cheezy tatoes" - sorry I probably shouldn't have said that huh!? Then when we got home Brittany, Dad & I took Bailey & Blaze for a walk - about 3-4 miles and Bailey actually did pretty good. I had to carry her part of the way - she thought she was quite the princess. We're going to Grandma & Grandpa Essig's tonight for dinner. Dad's spending the day over there today doing chores and work around the house for Grandpa - for his Father's day present. Brittany and I are going to Grandpa Reinerts visitation this afternoon. We'll give Chrissy, Mitch & Ali a hug from you. Write again soon. And try to stick your head in a picture or two (like Uncle Bill does) so I can see you!
    Love you TONS!

We just got back from our Fathers Day golf outing. We decided to celebrate it today because Ryan and Dad were gone most of the day yesterday. Dad and I were partners vs the boys. They beat us. It just wasn't the same without you! No one laid down and raked the sand traps! You definitely add a unique "something" to our golf outings.

I hope you're feeling well. You look wonderful in the pics. I did read Lucie's blog about your plans for your dorm room. Have you two decided on what campus this dorm room will be? Doesn't matter where you two are for you guys to come up with a plan for anything. You keep us laughing and guessing!

We continue to pray for your health and give God thanks for you. You are loved lots.

    Peace,
    Mom

    Nicole,

What a delight to read about what god is doing through you all. But it is even more exciting to know what he is doing in each of your lives individually and as a group. There is nothing like ministering together that builds community. When we go to Haiti, we tell our people tht you may think you are going to make a diference in their lives (and we do) but the real difference made wil be in your life. I know and pray that wil be true for you. We love you and can't wait to her about it when you get back. Uncle Gary
