Xxoxoxox Hannah

Hey Mom, Marty, Dad, Julia, Mackenzie, The OT and Amy,
All is well here in Jutiapa. I still have not gotten sick yet the only thing I am getting sick of is painting. Just finished day 4 of painting and tomorrow will make it day five. I have never painted so much in my life and probably never will again. I have been wearing the same pants every time we paint so they are now covered with an interesting array of colors. The food is awesome here in Jutiapa I love it! I am definitely ready for some rest and relaxation days though. Dad you are a stinker, you got me good, I was really worried about my car. Mom I’m glad you are still missing me I am missing you and if I would’ve been home I would’ve yelled back sorry I wasn’t. Mac I am glad to hear that people are asking about me and the kids haven’t forgotten about me yet I have been wondering. Sorry you are getting lonely I promise I’ll be home soon and we can watch lots of movies together. Amy it was GREAT to hear from you! How did you get the blog website? I am glad you are talking to Henry about me not a day goes by I don’t miss all of our kids! I am anxious to come home and see how they have grown. Tell everyone hi for me there I miss you all like crazy and I’ll see you soon! OT I sprinted across the church when people told me I had something from the OT! I am glad you got to see your G-ma that is great. I guess it is okay that I didn’t get a stuffed animal or something, I’ll try to forgive you! I am glad you went to Kristin’s birthday party for a bit, will you tell her happy late birthday from me please. I can’t wait to see you when I get home! Do you want a poncho thing with a hood people get them from Mexico and what not. It was just something I thought of let me know if not I’ll figure something out. I am glad to hear from you and hope it continues. I love you all and miss you tons!
With Love,
Taylor

Hey Dad Mom and Mark
Everything is good with me, and I’m not sick so that is a good thing because there is a good amount of people that are not so well. Thanks for the blog notes that you sent, I didn’t get the ones than dad sent me though. But anyway I was on the service team for the past two days and we painted in the church that we are stationed at some they really appreciated what we had done. We will have one more service day and will paint again, but then we will be going to Lake Attalon and have R&R time so that will be nice but anyway got go see ya
Love ,
Jon

Dear Mom, Dad, Sophie, Sweeney, and Angel

HAPPY BELATED FATHERS DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
I miss you guys so much. I had a great home stay, the people were very nice. There were three of us and we each got our own room with air conditioning!!!!!!!!!!!! I am feeling better then a couple of days ago when I had to go on the antibiotic, but do not worry I am doing great. The schools and churches we have been visiting are very welcoming and very friendly (I always knew my balloon animal phase would pay off).
I am excited and sad because we have one service day left. But then we get to go to Lake Atalan for rest and relaxation, and shopping. Adam is doing great, he is playing really well and is having no problems with his ankles, not to mention I was able to get some really good pictures of him playing. Also he has been putting on sun screen so he does not get burnt. We are both having a great time. I can not wait to see you guys, I love an miss you guys so much!!!!!!!!!!!

Love,
Taylor V

Hey Chelsea
How is America ,hope your plane ride back was good. Have fun at work and I wish you could be here, but anyway we have to hang out when we get back and have that bonfire. See you when we all get back!
Jon

Dear Mom, Dad, Sophie, Sweeney, and Angel,
It is the next morning, and I got a great night of sleep. I look forward to having a good day and hope to hear from you guys soon.
Love,
Taylor V

Hey mom and dad and jill!
I miss you guys. You should maybe write me. Im having tons of fun. Love ya
Steph tebbe

Mom and Dad,
Hello! Unfortunately I didn’t get to share my testimony last night because one of the translators shared his and it most of the night. It is alright though because his story was needed to be told to these kids. Hopefully there is another day that I can share it. I am having a good time and I love you guys.
Peace,
Brittany Backlund

Chelsey,
I miss you girl. How is home. We basically are painting all day today. I didn’t get a chance to share my testimony but that’s alright maybe another time. Well I love you and miss you!
Brittany Backlund

Hey family.
I’m keeping this one short because there are people waiting. But I just thought that I should check in! Everything is fine and I just did more painting today and last night. Pretty uneventful.
Love ya and I’ll see you soon!
-Kelsey Essig

Chelsey-
We miss you. Thanks for blogging. I saw in my email that you posted pictures of me on facebook. I haven’t looked at them yet. I am nervous to see what they are. Oh well. Lets do lunch ASAP when I get home. Love ya chica! You are missed. I will tell William HOLA!
Lori Ask

Hey again! I’ll give you 3 guesses as to what we did today and it starts with a P and ends with –AINT. I think the whole service team is ready for R&R and for no more painting. The people @ my home stay are all staying @ the church tonight because we have no water and Sam (the hottest guy on the trip) flushed our only bit of water. I miss you and I’ll be home soon!
Cole Peterson

Gross Gutt Meine Familia,
I had a super odd day yesterday. We went to the basketball courts in Jutiapa and the was a bull’s head in the basket. It was uber cool. I took many great shots with it! It was a Satanic sacrifice to nullify what we had done there two days ago. We prayed the crap out of it and reunnulliffied it. NICE! At the performance, all of the Satan worshipers converted. Then we went to two other schools and had a “service”. It was the most Godly intense moment of my life! I am really connecting with people here and Guatemalans. We then went to our home stay and I flushed our only bowl of water. Whoops. Look at what Cole Peterson’s blog says about me. Fresh! Today I played basketball too and made a buzzerbeater! Ballin’! Last night, Jared and John were morons and put spit, papaya, bad water, and grape juice down the straw of my water bottle and it gave me the skitters. I will get revenge and it will be sweet. But we are cool. Love ya lots!
Love,
Samuel George Knutson
P.S. Dave, if time is love and you won’t write to me does that mean you don’t love me? I am crying now…
P.P.S. My mime stuff smells like crap because I sweat a lot but haven’t washed it.
P.P.P.S. Mom, I am writing in my journal and have written a crap load.
P.P.P.P.S. I probably have the most post scripts ever… world record! GET SOME!

Hey Girls…Dad Erickson here.

If Christina is checking the blog, here’s a message from me to the most important ladies in my life.

“I love you. I miss you. I will see you soon.”

The team had a very special time last night after a full day of ministry. Victor, our El Salvadorian brother gave his testimony. The Lord used it to move in each of us in a special way, giving us a deeper desire to live for Him in this day and age. A day and an age in which the things of the world seem to take precedent over the things of God.

I pray that those things of the world will not have their way with us. I love the way each of you know and love the Lord Jesus. I miss our times at night praying together. Know that I continue to pray for you and I ask that when I’m away like this, you would pray for me. The Lord is attentive to the prayers that come from your heart. I continually lift up our concerns as a family, always hopeful, always trusting, always believing his will is being accomplished. He is using our present trials and circumstance to conform us to be more like Him. As we are honest with Him, he helps us understand ourselves and then helps us change accordingly. I pray that you may always see changes in me that will benefit my relationship with each of you.

Hope you all are having a fantastic day, enjoying the summer and treating each other well.

Love you,

Dad

Wow - the world's biggest letter from you today! Cool! Sorry to tease you about your car - I am not worthy of such a nice ride! I ran in to Lynnie at Caribou this morning - they are going to cover Guatemala soon in her classroom at EFC. Can you bring her back a coffee bean or something Guatemalan to show everyone? She might write later. Glad you are still feeling well (and that you now have a master's degree in painting!). I love you bunches.

It's very quiet without you so I'm looking forward to you coming home.
    See you soon.

I adore the posted picture of you surrounded by little children. There was a boy in the background who appeared to be taking your photo - are you enjoying star status?

Enjoy your day off - you have earned it. Make more memories!

Hey there, this is your new brother, Charlie. I moved in today and I love my new pen and kennel. Your sister is pretty cool. She is working hard to teach me to fetch and sit before you get home so you will like me. I am doing my best, but I am just a puppy and am trying to figure out this whole potty training thing. The neighbors all really like me. They keep telling me how cute I am. I am excited to meet you. I hear lots of good stuff about you. Sounds like the whole group is having great experiences in Guatemala. I will try to come to the airport to see you on Sunday. bye for now!

    Hi, Nik,

I just got home from work and thought I would write you a quick post. I am really missing you, girl!

I hope you enjoy your next couple of days of R&R. I'm sure it will be a sweet change for all of you.

From what I saw of Lake Atitlan in Josh and Dani's pictures when they went, it is just gorgeous! I hope it will be all that for you. Just drink in the experience, Binks, as you finish up.

I am so impressed with you and the whole group - from the posts I have been reading, you all have done a fabulous job. You have been so lucky to have the terrific leaders that have walked this journey with you step-by-step. They are great! I am sure the Lord is grinning as He sees what you all have accomplished.

Can't wait to see you on Sunday, Nik. Have a great time at "the lake".

    Love you much,

By the time you get home I will have played soccer 12 out of 13 days. I am looking forward to the rest that you are looking forward to. Hi Dude! (Jared)
Was happy to see you wrote again. I've been looking everyday, hoping for a few lines. I so enjoy all the pictures, especially seeing you in them. I was wondering if you've been sick yet or not and whether you've had to start your "pills". Have you been able to use your Spanish with the kids much? I laugh at Sam's crazy comments. I never know what he's going to say and half, I have no idea what he's talking about, but he is entertaining. Miss you bud, can't wait to see you Sunday. Dad flew to Boston Tuesday, coming back tomorrow.
    Love ya! Mom

Hi Jess! Hope you're enjoying yourself and having fun with the children and staying healthy. What a great experience. I'm wishing I was able to go with you guys. Maybe next year my nursing skills can find a place on the team and I can arrange the time off. We pray for you guys every night. See you back in MN

We'd love to hear from her too. We miss you and can't wait to see you on Sunday. Have fun shopping!!

    Hey Tolentino:

I can hardly believe that we will see you already in four days. Jan and I are both coming to the airport, and possibly the boys. I'll bet you can't believe all the experiences you have had in these last eleven days and now you are on your way out and back to the daily grind of working.

There won't be that anxious anticipation we've had these last six months. What will we to pass the time? You could build a mud house out back and paint it. We could store the lawn mower in it and the snow blower. I hope you have taken a bunch of pictures. We think about you all the time. Frank finished camp today and now is lonesome for you.

Have a really great Thursday, Friday, Saturday and then its back to Minneapolis.

    I love you.

    Dad

PS Had you not done OCA I probably still would not know what a blog is.

  • At 6:39 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

    Elizabeth

Earlier this morning during my quiet time, I was reflecting on how fortunate the OCA team is to have the opportunity to be in a place where you can serve God by serving other people for a period time, and then I recognized that even us at home (and you upon your return) have the same opportunity. It is just not as dramatic or as exotic, but not any less important. Therefore, enjoy your R&R and prepare for your next great adventure and opportunity to serve when you return home.

Last night, Danae's soccer team played the team on which Andrea Lima's sister played, and I was talking with Andrea's mom who was telling me how Andrea misses being part of the OCA team this year. I am glad that you could go for a second year and experience a different type of ministry.

If you have not already, you can go to your Facebook and see the Grad Open House invitation. I scanned it because I thought that you may be interested in seeing it. Hope it meets with your approval. Danae and Mom worked hard to get it created and mailed. You may have to do a supplemental mailing when you get home, if we did not send it to all of your invites.

It will be very nice having you home. We are really looking forward to it. You have not said, but we are assuming that you have not been sick like you were last year. Enjoy the next couple of days.

    Love,

    Dad, Mom & Danae

I am excited to see you Sunday and can't beleive you have just a few days left. If you recall, one of our prayers for you on this trip was that God would reveal himself to you in new and different ways in order for your faith to grow even stronger and deeper as you are transitioning into a new season of your life. I can't wait to hear first hand how that has happened, to hear and watch you as you share your experiences from this trip and to see you.

I've been dying for some Chin De Leon and can't wait til you and I can have some together!

Hey Tay!! It's Lynnie! Sounds like you're having a great time. I saw your dad asked about coffee beans. I was actually curious about the berries as they grow on the tree so we could show the kids how they start out. I hear that being agricultural it could be a problem, and that's no biggie. But if you come across something else CHEAP and interesting about Guatemala, it would be fun to see it. Cath says hi!!! Miss you!

    Hi Kelli M,
Did you see the blog from Grandma & Bopa? Check out the comments from day 2 in Jutiapa.

We CAN'T WAIT to see you on Sunday! It's been so quiet around here. Dad was out of town for a couple of days so it was just Robbie and me. I think Robbie actually got bored for a couple of hours yesterday because he actually deep-cleaned his room! When I tucked him in for bed he said he "felt guilty because his bed wasn't made." He must have gotten that from you :)

Hope you're feeling good - let us know (if you have a chance to blog.) Enjoy your hard earned rest and relaxation days, and know you are in our prayers! We love you Kelli!

Mo is healing slowly; she is quite wounded from her scooter spill. She attended b-ball camp today, but didn't really participate. She's now headed to Stillwater this evening for her lacrosse game. She dressed, but isn't sure she'll see time on the field - but being part of the team means showing up.

Sounds like the group is looking forward to the R&R days. Would you mind picking me up a paint brush as a souvenir? I hear they have a different type in Central America. Make sure it's not used - even slightly - you know how I feel about my tools. You probably don't think this is funny, do you? :)
    Love,
    Dad

    Hannah J,
    What do you say?
Lookin' forward to you coming our way!

You'll be happy to know that your car is back from the shop. The other great news is the arrival of your report card!

    Until Sunday.
    Love,
    Mom

    Hi Samuel George,
How are you? I hope that you didn’t get a major case of diarrhea. Did you start the Cipro for traveler’s diarrhea? Please make sure that you’re making good choices and always be kind to the friends. We all make poor decisions. So take the high road. Thank you for taking time to journal, it will be such a special souvenir and will help you remember this awesome time in your life. Have you and the friends taken turns writing in David’s journal? It will be a meaningful gift to David and his family. Thank you for writing and keeping us abreast of your time in Guatemala, you are doing great things for the kingdom of God. I can’t wait to see you on Sunday. Be safe and have a totally awesome finish to your mission s trip. Love you lots!!!!!!
    XOXOXO……Bye, bye,bye….
    Mom
P.S. Give smooches to the girls from me!

    Guten Tag Samuel,
Wow, your last blog made my head spin! So many incredible experiences!! Well, except for the “skitters”. Be careful what you drink…. and beware of who is tampering with your water bottle. As a payback have the guys smell your mime costume! So they needed your wicked skills on the basketball court? Maybe you and KG can both be on the next Wheaties box. That is so intense that you had a run in with satan worshippers – and won them over to Christ! God is definitely working through each of you on this trip! Nothing really new around here, kind of boring really. But don’t let that stop you from coming home! Stay safe and healthy. See you Sunday!
    Love you,
    Dad

Kate - Today was a glorious 92 degrees. The sky was blue, the sun was strong, yet there was still a breeze which made it for a great day.

Torie is off to Prestley's for a sleep over and she is feeling rather excited as she passed her motorcycle test. So needless to say, she is very happy!

We are so excited to see you on Sunday. I love you so much and we are so proud of you!

    Derek, Jared, John and Sam,
While you're shopping on your R & R days we just wanted to let you know that we could use some new lawn ornaments. How special to have them from Guatemala! Make sure the colors don't clash with the color of our house.

Have you missed that down home microwave cooking?

    Aren't birthdays great?!

Hey Taylor, I am so glad your mission trip is going so well. I can't wait to hear all about it the next time you work. I took the funniest picture of Quinn the other day. He was wearing a do-rag and had the best smile on his face. I can't wait to show you the picture. Have a safe trip home and see ya soon!!!

    Dear Bubba,
How are you? How’s the food? I just had a huge barbeque shaved pork sandwich at Champs and it was delicious! Did you get revenge on John and Jared yet? I’m going to AHA for weight training and the kid that we call “Slick” punched me really hard. I guess he doesn’t like the name Slick, but I keep calling him it anyway. Ben misses you. And I do too.
    Love,
    David
    Hugs and smooches
P.S. Did you get me a machete yet?

    Woof Woof Sam!
I am so lonely without you here! Sure, David, and Daddy and Mamma are okay, but I’m really your dog! I know I’m only 11 months old WIDDLE, but I miss going for runs with you. I’ve been having “accidents” in the house almost every day just to let the family know that I’m not happy when you’re gone.
    Love,
    Magnet Marie

Courtney, Steph, Alicyn, Anna, and Lindsey:

Hola! We hope you are having a hot time down there in the hot sun! Did you get cornflakes and milk from the first village you went to? I (teresa) remember that. It made me throw up. I'm sure you wanted to hear that. Enjoy every moment you can in the lovely chicken buses...it's painful at the time, but it's fun to laugh about later. Libby wants to know why they're called chicken buses. FIND OUT. it is your assignment from us. make sure you're taking your malaria pills, because we want to see you. so don't die pretty much. ok well that's all for now folks! you're almost done anyway, enjoy your final moments. not to be creepy or cheesy. yep so we'll stop rambling...miss you bye!

    Hi Jeff,
It's Thursday night. Just wanted to send a quick note; we miss you so much! I'm bringing your car in to Wally's in the morning.(you know how I like to wait till the last minute!) Summer has finally arrived!! It's been hot. Both Tre and Michelle had hockey clinics this afternoon. It felt so good in the arenas. Tre had another lax game last night. He looks so good on the field. Just like his big brother:) Hope you have some relaxing days. Don't get sunburned like last year. We'll see you Sunday at the airport!!

    Hola Papi, Kimby

I hope you're taking advantage of your last few days there in Guate. Since its Friday I'm assuming you're all shopping in Antigua?
I'm sure these past two weeks really flew by right?
It's definitely a great feeling knowing that you and your entire team is safe doing God's work in such a faraway place. I hope Eddie, Josh, Emanuel, and everyone else is doing well and also making your experience a very memorable one like they did with mine.
Work is going well for my first week, right now things are sort of ambiguous seeing that I'm just a lowly intern, but everyone is very welcoming.
Sorry Kimby about not being responsive, Mom, Jonathan, and I will see you on Saturday!
